Minor detainees are maltreated in Israeli jails, say former minor prisoners

RAMALLAH, Thursday, November 29, 2018 (WAFA) – Shadi Farrah and Ahmad Zaatari, both 15 years old, who were just released from Israeli jails on Thursday following three years of imprisonment, said Israeli prison authorities have been maltreating minor prisoners at times in order to forcibly extract confessions.

Speaking at a press conference in Ramallah, central West Bank, following their release, Farrah and Zaatari said Israeli interrogators also intimidate and verbally abuse the minor detainees, as well as force them occasionally to receive medical drugs that cause hallucinations.

Zaatari added that he survived a murder attempt by an Israeli interrogator who tried to stifle him to extract a confession by force.

To be noted, violations against minor prisoners in Israeli jails include brutal manner of their arrest in front of their families, physical and mental interrogation methods, medical negligence, and provocative searches by prison officers.
