Palestinian Christian female lawyer granted license to practice law in Sharia courts

 

RAMALLAH, Thursday, February 28, 2019 (WAFA) – Chief Religious Justice Mahmoud al-Habbash granted a Palestinian Christian female lawyer a license to practice law in the Muslim Sharia court.

Haya Bannoura, a Christian lawyer from Beit Sahour near the biblical Palestinian city of Bethlehem, was granted a license to represent clients in Palestine’s Islamic Sharia courts.

She is the fifth Palestinian Christian female lawyer to practice Sharia law since the establishment of the Palestinian Authority in 1994.

Habbash stressed that the Palestinian people are cohesive and united and Palestinian Christian are an integral part of the country’s social fabric as well as the Palestinian people as a whole.

Bannoura affirmed that she has opted to obtain such a license for a pure humanitarian purpose and that her sense of loyalty to Palestine supersedes her religious affiliation.
