Update: Israel Detains 10 Palestinians in West Bank Raids, Toddler Suffocates

JENIN, August 16, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Tuesday detained at least 10 Palestinians, including a minor, during overnight raids across the West Bank with a toddler suffocation case reported, according to an activist and Palestine Prisoner’s Society.

Three Palestinians were detained from Jenin district, another from Qalqiliya, another from Jerusalem and three others from Hebron.

In Jenin district, forces raided Jenin refugee camp, re-detaining Mustafa Qaniri and his son, Ahmad.

They also detained Yusef Masharqa, 26, after storming and ransacking his family house in Yaabad town, west of Jenin.

In Qalqiliya district, forces detained Salah Jum‘ah, 23, during a raid that sparked clashes into Kafr Qaddum town, east of the city.

Coordinator of local popular committee Murad Ishteiwi said clashes erupted between Israeli troops and local youths who protested the raid and attempted to block their passage.

Troops reportedly fired live rounds, rubber-coated steel bullets and tear gas canisters, causing four-month-old toddler Farah Yusef to suffocate.

In Jerusalem district, police handcuffed and detained Ashraf Hijazi after breaking into his family house in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabal al-Mukabbir.

Another Palestinian identified as Hamad Ashayer was detained from Jerusalem district.

In Hebron district, forces detained three Palestinians during a raid that sparked clashes in Beit Ummar town, north of the city.

The detainees were identified as Hamza Abu Hashem, 18, Rashed As-Sleibi, 19, and Ward Awad, 15, whose brother, Jaafar, died from health complications after being held in Israeli prison in April 2015.

Forces stormed and thoroughly searched the family house of Sadem As-Sleibi and fired live rounds and stun grenades during the raid. No injuries were reported though.

This came as another Palestinian identified as Rajeh Abu Ajamiah, 45, was detained during a raid into the Hebron refugee camp of al-Fawwar.
