Father and son among 15 detained from West Bank

JERUSALEM, Thursday, February 13, 2020 (WAFA) – Israeli forces today overnight detained 15 Palestinians, including a father and his son, in multiple raids across the occupied West Bank, said the Palestine Prisoners’ Society (PPS).

PPS confirmed in a press release that Israeli police Wednesday evening rounded up seven Palestinians, including a teen who was injured by police gunfire, from Jerusalem district.

In Bethlehem district,  PPS said that Israeli forces detained four Palestinians, including three from Duheisha refugee camp. Among the three were a 50-year-old father and his son.

In Ramallah district, Israeli military vehicles stormed the Ramallah city neighborhood of al-Tireh, where soldiers detained a Palestinian, ransacked several houses and seized the recordings of surveillance cameras.

Soldiers also conducted separate two raids into Kafr Ein and Beit Sira villages, northwest and west of Ramallah city, resulting in the detention of two teens.

In the northern West Bank, a similar predawn raid was conducted in Kafr Qaddum village, east of Qalqilia, resulting in the detention of a Palestinian.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.

According to Palestinian figures, roughly 5,700 Palestinians -- including numerous women and children -- are currently languishing in Israeli detention facilities.
