RAMALLAH, January 8, 2017 (WAFA) – The Israel Prisons Service (IPS) confiscated more than 2000 books and research papers used by Palestinian prisoners in Hadarim prison under the pretext they include “security material,” the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said on Monday.
A PPS attorney who visited prisoners at Hadarim told him that the IPS seized the books in an attempt to obstruct prisoners from pursuing a university education while serving time in prison.
Hadarim, where 120 prisoners are held, is the only Israeli prison where Palestinian inmates are permitted to continue higher education and to do research with help from prisoners who have a university degree.
