Israeli forces kill suspected assailant north of Ramallah

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, March 20, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Tuesday night killed a Palestinian suspected of killing two Israelis during a raid in Abwein village, north of Ramallah city.

Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that Israeli forces killed Omar Amin Abu Laila, 19, the alleged perpetrator of a stabbing and shooting attack outside Ariel settlement, north of Salfit city, following a two-day large-scale manhunt.

WAFA correspondent reported that dozens of Israeli armored vehicles stormed the village, where soldiers surrounded a house after cutting the power lines, and used loudspeakers to call on a person who barricaded himself inside a house, apparently Abu Laila, to surrender and threatened to demolish the structure.

Soldiers surrounded the house for almost two hours before opening heavy fire on it and killing Abu Laila.

The raid triggered violent confrontations, during which soldiers opened fire on protesters, injuring nine, including two with live ammunition and another with rubber-coated steel bullets, and detained several others.

One of the casualties sustained injuries in the neck and leg and was rushed to Ramallah Medical Complex, where medics described his condition as stable.

Palestinian medics confirmed that a Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance rushed to Abwein, but it was denied access by Israeli soldiers.

Abu Laila allegedly killed two Israelis, including a soldier, and seriously injured another outside Ariel settlement, north of Salfit, on Sunday.
