Sabastiya municipality completes Japan-funded power project

NABLUS, January 31, 2017 (WAFA) – The Municipality of Sabastiya Tuesday announced the completion of the project for the rehabilitation of Sabastiya’s electricity network funded by the government of Japan.

Takeshi Okubo, Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to the Palestinian Authority, visited Sebastiya in Nablus to celebrate the completion of the project funded through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

The grant of $87,352 was extended to Sebastiya Municipality to improve the electricity network and the residential environment for the residents.

It replaced 610 meters of the existing electricity cables with Aerial bundled cables (ABC) in two locations and replaced 800 meters of the overhead medium voltage power lines with underground ABC cables.

Another 40 old wooden electricity poles were replaced with steel poles. The direct beneficiaries of the improved network system are estimated at a total of 3,150 residents.

Okubo emphasized Japan’s firm commitment of supporting Palestinian people from a human security perspective and the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.
