Settlers shatter olive trees near Ramallah

RAMALLAH, Friday, November 08, 2019 (WAFA) – Illegal Jewish settlers shattered today six olive trees in the village of Um Saf, to the west of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, local sources said.

Marwan Sabbah, head of the village council of Um Safa, told WAFA that a group of illegal settlers from Halamish, an illegal Israeli settlement nearby, broke into a grove planted with olives in the village, before shattering six trees which belong to two brothers from the village.

He said the village has been a target of frequent atacks by Jewish settlers, especially attacks targeting agriculture, the main source of livelihood in the village.

Over the past four weeks, the West Bank witnessed a wave of settler attacks and agricultural terrorism as Palestinian farmers began the year’s olive harvest.

The cruellest attack occurred on the morning of October 16 when more than 30 settlers, masked and armed, attacked Palestinian farmers and foreign volunteers in Burin, north of the West Bank, injuring three of them, one seriously.
