RAMALLAH, Wednesday, September 11, 2019 (WAFA) – The declaration by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to annex the occupied Jordan Valley if elected and the strong Palestinian reaction to it were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies today.
The three papers highlighted statements by President Mahmoud Abbas in which he said that all agreements with Israel will be cancelled if Israel annexes any part of the occupied Palestinian territory.
Abbas’ statements were highlighted in bold on the top half of Al-Hayat al-Jadida, which also said the Arab League has condemned this move, while al-Ayyam printed several Palestinian, Arab and international reactions.
In other front page news, al-Ayyam said projectiles were fired from Gaza into southern Israeli towns while Netanyahu was on an election campaign event.
It also said that an Israeli drone was shot down over the Gaza Strip while Israel attacked posts in Gaza.
It quoted the Qatari envoy to Gaza, Mohammad Amadi, saying Egypt and the factions are benefitting financially and politically from the situation in Gaza.
In the West Bank, said al-Quds, several people were suffocated during clashes with Israeli soldiers in Umm Safa village, near Ramallah, as Israeli forces carried out an arrest campaign in several districts.
Al-Quds also said in a front page headline: “Trump fires the war monger John Bolton.”
It said the United Nations has warned of an unprecedented humanitarian crisis with the collapse of the Palestinian economy.
The paper also quoted the UNRWA commissioner general saying the UN Palestine refugee agency is facing an unprecedented attack to delegitimize it.
It said Switzerland has denied discussing with Israel alternatives to UNRWA.
The paper also said the Israel High Court has called again for demolishing Palestinian homes near the Gush Etzion settlement bloc near Bethlehem.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida also highlighted the UN report on the Palestinian economy and the UNRWA crisis.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Jordan summoned the Israeli ambassador to Amman following Israel’s detention of two Jordanian citizens at the border crossing.
Al-Quds said Jordan issued over 2000 passports to Jerusalem residents at its Jerusalem office.
