JERUSALEM, May 5, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli police Thursday prevented a Palestinian scout group from parading to celebrate the Islamic festival of Isra and Miraj in Jerusalem, said WAFA correspondent.
Police prevented Hilal al-Quds Scout Group from observing the day through a parade to mark the occasion, under the pretext that the festival coincides with the Holocaust Memorial Day (Yom HaShoah).
Every year, the scout group parades from Hilal al-Quds headquarters toward Al-Aqsa Mosque compound to observe the day, which Muslims believes it was then that Prophet Mohammad took a miraculous journey in one night and traveled from Mecca to Jerusalem and then ascended to the heavens.
Muslims celebrate the day by offering optional prayers during this night and illuminating cities with electric lights and candles.
