Palestinian charged with killing Israeli soldier in West Bank maintains his innocence

RAMALLAH, Thursday, June 25, 2020 (WAFA) – A Palestinian man charged today by the Israeli military prosecutor of pre-meditated killing of an Israeli soldier has denied responsibility for the incident and maintained his innocence, according to the Palestinian Commission of Detainees.

Commission attorney Khaled Mahajneh said Nathmi Abu Bakr, 49, who appeared at Salem military court today, has denied all charges against him, stressing that he had nothing to do with the killing of the soldier.

The Israeli soldier was killed when a rock fell on his head from the roof of the Abu Bakr family home during a raid of the northern West Bank town of Yabad on May 12. The army detained all the Abu Bakr family members at the time and later accused Nathmi Abu Bakr of dropping the rock that killed the soldier.

Mahajneh said the soldier’s father verbally attacked Abu Bakr’s attorneys at the court calling them names and attempted to physically attack Abu Bakr.

The court set July 29 to consider a request by the military prosecutor to remand Abu Bakr until all legal procedures against him are completed.
