RAMALLAH, July 25, 2013 (WAFA) – Results of the high school matriculation exams, the tawjihi, announced Thursday showed almost 60 percent success rate in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
In announcing the results, undersecretary of the Ministry of Education Jihad Zakarne, said while 85,910 students sat for the tawjihi exam this year, 51,187 students have passed, a rate of 59.58 percent.
He said success rate in the science stream was 80.3 percent and 54.2 percent passed in the arts stream.
President Mahmoud Abbas congratulated the successful students and wished those who failed better luck in the future.
Celebrations were held throughout the West Bank and Gaza as the results were announced simultaneously in both locations.
Students shot fire crackers in the air and drove around the streets honking their car horns and dancing following the announcement of the results.
