RAMALLAH, August 28, 2011 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas said on Sunday that “when Palestine gains international recognition of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, it will be a country under occupation, thus our reference will be the United Nations (UN), and we will discuss our issues there according to article four of the Geneva convention,” according to an interview in the Qatari newspaper ‘Al Watan’.
He added that this organization will continue its work until all the Palestinian issues are solved on all levels including the refugees. “The organization exists but there is a need for some additions and reforms in the PLO, and now we are addressing the issue of who wants to join the organization. In the reconciliation framework there is an article called the PLO.”
Abbas added, “There is a Pressure to stop us from going to the UN, not only practiced on us but also on other countries, but at the end there is a Palestinian interest that we want to follow.”
Concerning the Palestinian national unity and the situation in the Gaza Strip, after gaining UN full membership and recognition, he said, “First, We fought and we will always fight the siege on Gaza. Second we only have one authority because Hamas’ authority is illegal, still there is a Palestinian reconciliation, which in spite of obstacles will succeed, and soon I hope.”
