GAZA, May 16, 2011 (WAFA) – The Israeli Navy Monday fired several warning shots at a Malaysian aid ship carrying building materials to the Gaza Strip, forcing it to divert its course to the Egyptian regional waters, according to the Malaysian Star Online.
Perdana Global Peace Foundation (PGPF), which sponsored the aid, said in a statement that the ship, MV Spirit of Rachel Corrie, was shot at on Monday when it entered the Palestinian security zone.
The ship left the Port of Piraeus, Greece last Wednesday carrying 7.5 kilometers of UPVC plastic sewage pipes to help restore Gaza’s devastated sewage system.
There were no injuries reported.
