ISTANBUL, Saturday, July 10, 2021 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas met today with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyib Erdogan in Istanbul, and discussed with him the latest political developments in Palestine, including the recent Israeli aggression on Gaza.

The two leaders also discussed the ongoing Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem, including attempts to evict dozens of Palestinian families from their homes in favor of Israeli settler organizations. They also discussed other issues of mutual interest.

President Abbas briefed Erdogan on the recent talks held with the US administration under Joe Biden and  its vision concerning the two-state solution and respecting the historical status quo in the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem.

The two leaders agreed on the importance of joint action to defend the Palestinian cause in international forums, and to make all possible efforts to stop the Israeli violations in Jerusalem and the rest of Palestine.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad Al-Maliki, Head of the General Authority for Civil Affairs Minister Hussein Al-Sheikh, Palestinian intelligence chief Major-General Majed Faraj, advisor to the President for religious affairs and Islamic relations, Mahmoud al-Habbash, and diplomatic advisor to the President, Majdi Al-Khalidi.
