RAMALLAH, Sunday, May 2, 2021 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic-language dailies focused today on the crackdown yesterday carried out by Israeli occupation forces on Orthodox Christian worshipers attending Holy Saturday celebrations in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in occupied Jerusalem.
The dailies said Israeli occupation police attacked dozens of Christians, including monks, commemorating the Holy Saturday in the alleys leading to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in occupied Jerusalem.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Presidency condemned the Israeli occupation’s oppressive measures against Christians commemorating the Holy Saturday in the heart of Jerusalem city.
The three dailies said Palestine welcomed yesterday the international positions that have called for holding vote in occupied Jerusalem, together with the rest of the Palestinian territories.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad al-Malki as saying that efforts are being exerted to mobilize maximum international pressure on Israel to allow the holding of Palestinian elections in Jerusalem.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, as saying that the Palestinian leadership decision to postpone the legislative and presidential elections aims at preserving top national constants
Al-Quds said Israeli police assaulted and dispersed dozens of Palestinian protesters while holding a demonstration against Israel's plan to evict dozens of families from their homes in the occupied Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah.
The three dailies said 664 new cases of coronavirus and eight deaths were reported in Palestine yesterday.
Al-Ayyam said several injuries were reported yesterday in an ongoing crime wave in the Palestinian communities in 1948-occupied Palestine, blamed for Israeli police inaction towards criminality.
