RAMALLAH, Sunday, August 30, 2020 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Finance and Planning announced today that the government employees will only receive 50 percent of the July salary.
It said in a statement that employees whose salary is below 1750 shekels (about $510) will receive a full salary, while those of a higher salary will receive a minimum of 1750 shekels or half their salary, whichever is higher.
For four months now, the Palestinian government has been grappling with a financial crisis caused by Israel's failure to transfer about $500 million in monthly tax revenues it collects on behalf of the Palestinians, in the aftermath of the Palestinian leadership's decision to halt coordination with the Israeli occupation.
The crisis was also exacerbated by the decline in government local revenues caused by the partial lockdown of public and commercial life due to the coronavirus pandemic.
