PARIS, Friday, July 10, 2020 (WAFA) – French President Emmanuel Macron today demanded Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to go ahead with annexing Palestinian land in the West Bank.
The French Oresident‘s office said Macron told Netanyahu in a phone call that "such a move would contravene international law and jeopardize the possibility of a two-state solution as the basis of a fair and lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians."
France, Germany, Egypt, Jordan and other countries already criticized the planned annexation in a joint statement last Wednesday, stressing it would create a "major obstacle to efforts aimed at achieving comprehensive and just peace" in Palestine and Israel.
Israeli Prime Minister was planning to commence the annexation on July 1 but postponed the action in order to finalize details with the United States.
The Palestinian leadership and all the political spectra in Palestine have rejected the Israeli plan in toto, which is part of the US-backed "Deal of the Century" unveiled in January.
