RAMALLAH, May 4, 2016 (2016) - The Palestine Economic Policy Research Institute (MAS) Tuesday convened the second of a series of four preparatory meetings leading to the planned MAS Economic conference to be held in the summer of 2016 under the theme: “Towards a New Vision for the Revival of the Palestinian Economy”. This second closed technical symposium focused on a discussion paper entitled: “Socio-Economic Landscape: Curbing Unemployment, Poverty Alleviation and Bridging Social Gaps”. JENIN, May 4, 2016 (WAFA)- Israeli forces Wednesday detained 12 Palestinians, including at least two minors, and summoned another during overnight raids into a number of West Bank districts, said Palestine Prisoner’s Society. Forces detained four Palestinians from Jenin, three others from Hebron, three others from Jerusalem, two others from Ramallah and summoned another from Hebron. Four detained four Palestinians from Deir Abu Da‘if and Faqqu‘a villages, northeast and east of Jenin. The detainees were identified as Bilal Yasin, 25, Mujahed Ya‘coub, 26, Mushir Massad, 21, and Muhammad Massad, 22. RAMALLAH, May 4, 2016 (WAFA) – The ‘Al-Quds Index‘ of the Palestine Exchange closed Wednesday trading at 500.50 points, up by 0.22 points (0.04%) compared to the last trading session, according to the PEX daily report.  A Total of 507,888 shares were traded with a value of $1,082,270.89 executed during 158 transactions. Shares of 15 companies were traded; share price increased in five companies whereas decreased in five other companies. Top five gainers: QUDS by (6.84%), NIC by (4.87%), BJP by (2.56%), PRICO by (1.72%), and BOP by (0.4%). RAMALLAH, May 4, 2016 (WAFA) – The labor force participation rate of persons aged 15 years and above in Palestine was 45.8% in the first quarter of this year, according to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS). It said the number of persons participating in the labor force in Palestine was 1,326,700 in the 1st quarter 2016; 834,300 in the West Bank and 492,400 in Gaza Strip. The labor force participation rate in the West Bank was 45.5% and 46.4% in Gaza Strip. The gap in the participation rate between males and females in Palestine is still very big, where it reached 71.6% for males compared with 19.4% for females.
